So while browsing my Huffington Post mobile app, I crossed this article, State Dept to Students: Don't Discuss Wikileaks on Facebook or Twitter... Or else.

What do you find folks think about this article?

Govt threat

If true, it's pretty alarming. It implies the State Department want drones or robots, not thinking employees.

Pawns

I was thinking the same. Then again, the American government doesn't want people who think for themselves; they don't need free-thinkers, they need pawns.
Sad really.

To be honest I don't really

To be honest I don't really trust wikileaks not that they don't release some truth but 99% truth and 1% lie is still completely deceptive, and I do think its important to remember we are in the information age ... pieces of the truth are coming out hence we are being bombarded with so much information its getting harder to know your arse from your elbow. Those in power know there is an awakening happening obviously they will want to control it as much as possible...

Personally I don't 'distrust'

Personally I don't 'distrust' wikileaks in the sense that they may release 'lies' - if they did they would have been jumped on instantly and blown out of all proportion to discredit *everything* they have published - as this hasn't happened I think we can be fairly sure that their releases are genuine.

I do have issues with wikileaks itself though, and also with Assange, they seem to be motivated by something other than transparency in government.

i don't want to sound completely off the wall, but....

Kia, the motivation in my opionion is completly the opposite of what they are stating it is for. yeah they are releasing some interesting information but on the other side of the spectrum don't you think the timing for all of ths chaos is a bit dazzling? it's not like wikileaks is a brand new site...

Wikileaks and Assange are affiliated with some interesting characters in general. The whole thing weirds me out.

I think thats as far as i'll go with it for now though. my brain is on overtime trying to put the puzzle pieces together... ;)

any other thoughts on this are more then welcome.

The way I see it...

To me, Wikileaks seems to have a teetering motion. They were started years ago, but not until recent have they gained a large fan-base. It's almost comparable to an Indie band hoping to make it big; if they play music that the masses want to hear, then they'll get noticed.
Wikileaks seems to have just recently started releasing information that governments don't quite enjoy, but everyone else loves it- especially since we're a populace who thrives on drama.
Overall, I enjoyed watching Assange's interview on "Frost Over The World", but I am afraid that some day his site will leak something vital.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, right?

Well, obviously this arrest

Well, obviously this arrest seems fishy (to me, anyway). I mean, the government sends him a message telling him to shut down wikileaks, or else. Assange keeps going, and what happens? He's arrested. For, what was it...sex by surprise??? I mean, really?

As far as trusting WikiLeaks goes, I trust them to an extent. I admit, many documents are tedious to read through, but I've never seen them put "their take" on situations, they just put documents online and let the people make of it what they will. To me, that's noble. I mean, I'm curious about their opinions, but I don't want to let it influence my decision about a subject, that's for advertising companies.
