Not quite sure where to put this, but I guess here is good as any.

I'm not in the UK, nor am I from there, but I have been following what news I can scrape together about the riots over the past few days.  The interesting bit is that the rioters are rioting for no real reason other than to cause damage and to show that they can do what they want.  I believe that if they keep this up, the government will be able to use this as reasoning to increase surveillance and other Big Brother type occurences.

What has me most concerned is that these riots in the UK will very possibly lead to riots in the USA as well.

Anybody in the area with news on the riots?

I am in the UK, and you are

I am in the UK, and you are right that people are rioting and looting for no real reason. Just because the rioters are not politically motivated does not mean that the riots are not happening because of political problems though.

I think we are starting to see that the government will use this as an excuse to introduce more draconian measures such as increased CCTV, and a more aggressive 'clamp down' on social media.

What worries me as much as the riots and looting though is the reaction of the 'man in the street' - listening to the reactions of people on facebook and twitter, it would seem that the general population are vying for blood (of the rioters) and are probably just as aggressive and abusive as the people rioting.

I think this goes a long way to explain where the rioters got their attitude from!
