CIA trying to cover something up?
The news story found here reports that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is suing a man using the pseudonym "Ishmael Jones" for writing a book that shows the agency in a bad light. The author is a former CIA DCO (Deep Cover Operative) that retired some time ago (the book was actually published a few years ago, the CIA just got wind of it recently).
"Jones" states that the majority of the CIA's operations actually focus on activity within the United States, NOT overseas, as the Agency's "creed" suggests.
I have done my own research on the book itself, and apparently, it goes further to discredit and expose the spy agency. It reveals that presidents make decisions of war without knowing that most of the CIA's intel is either wrong or made up entirely.
Jones reportedly made efforts to steer the CIA "back on track," but was threatened with arrest by both foreign intelligence agencies and the CIA itself.
It should me mentioned that technically, nothing revealed in the book was ever labeled "classified," as Jones does not go into detail about investigations. However, the CIA is suing because it is Jones' "duty" to keep things like that quiet.
I think that's kind of interesting. Makes me wonder what else this guy knows about the way the CIA really works.
Very fascinating. I do agree that the CIA is clearly trying to cover something up - if there was nothing to hide, why sue the guy? Just dismissing him as a lier would be more believable than saying he's a lier then suing him for not keeping said things quiet.
I just ordered the book through Amazon. ;)
